Classic National Geographic Wall Map

When most people think of a World Map, they remember the big world maps that used to fall out of the National Geographic Magazine. This is the large world map everybody remembers. This is the Classic World map. The map is completely up-to-date and the white background of the countries make it easier to read the city detail. The thing the National Geographic prides itself in is the projection of this map. They are just about the only ones who use the Tripp-Winkel projection. It does a real good job of representing the land masses accurately, but some people have a problem with the map aesthetically because it always shows the earth with an oval. They do a pretty good job of filling in the corners with other smaller maps showing world climate or population density.

Michelin World Map

I think the Michelin World map is one of the most attractive and most over-looked political maps we carry. The coloring is subtle yet sophisticated. The size is large enough for display but not overbearing and the detail is excellent. It also comes with country flags displayed along the top and bottom, an inset of a time zone map, and insets of the North and South poles. These are all nice little details which add to the quality and style of the map.
Unfortunately, it does only come in the one size (40"X50") which is quite large. And some people find the colors to be too neutral, but I prefer it to the bolder maps which I feel can look a little too "schoolhouse". The Michelin World map is both elegant and informative with an artistic quality that separates it from other world maps.

Lets Get Physical (World that is)

Let's see... Physical World. Positives: Minimum Clutter, great geographic/topographic detail & the colors aren't stuffy or boring! All-of-what-you-need none of what you don't. Negatives: It, by definition, is not a political map! (Don't buy it if that's what you want). It has decent detail (capital cities/major features) but no where near the city detail the National Geographic World will have. Also, it being a physical map, won't color code countries so it's tough to differentiate between the continental European Countries. If you're looking for something that shows our planet as it is and you're not a political science major, this is the map for you!

National Geographic Executive World Map

Why is this map so darn popular? This is the most popular world map we sell. There are so many varieties of world maps, there is probably one for every situation. The Exec, as we like to call it, is popular for a number of reasons. First and foremost is probably the coloring of the map. From a decoration point of view, the map looks like a work of art. And even though we are heavily into digital mapping, we can go along with the concept that cartography is an art as well as a science. Second, the map itself is taken from the classic National Geographic world map we remember pulling out of the magazine when we were kids. So it's a pretty good, time tested world map. The projection of the map in Tripp-Winkel, so it doesn't distort the land area of land masses near the poles. Third, the map comes in a variety of sizes. a 2 by 3 so it will fit in a standard frame, a 43 x 30", a 48 x 72" (that's 6 feet long) and as map wall paper that is 6 feet high and 10 feet long. And finally, being National Geographic, it's up-to-date with the latest political changes around the world. So go ahead and buy the Executive World Map if you must, but first look over all of maps of the world we have to offer and see if your needs might be better served with a more distinctive map.

Upside Down World Map

There are actually several Upside Down World Maps published these days. But only one has really good cartography. This elevates the Upside Down World Map from a conversation piece to a map you can actually use.

This also makes the Upside down map a good teaching tool because it has other map projections at the bottom of the map. Here's a link to . The Upside Down World Map that will let you see a larger picture.
